VII/42 vs VIIE

Is there any advantage to having a VII/42 over the VIIE ?

Only got one toward the end of the game for the very distant missions (fuel tank at level 5 is 194t) is very quiet and manoeuverable, down sides are no deck gun, and only can fit 4x2cm flak.

By the time you get the last parts for the E you don't really need the extra range of it (218t fuel) but it can only have 8.8cm deck gun, and 4x2cm flak. It's again a little faster etc.

Favourite sub is C41, with 3.7cm flak and 10.5 deck gun (but only 138t fuel).

So it depends on the need for range and slight speed/stealth (especially the E with hull coating which is expensive in PP to keep repairing) vs better deck armaments and of course the mission requirements overall - and personal preference.

A lot of people (if not all) don´t like VIIC42 because of its missing deckgun. So it´s not recommended if you mostly hunt in wolfpacks.
Just a few components are different from VIIE, which has a slightly bigger fueltank, another pressure hull or that 12 cylinder diesel engine
and of course the anti- sonar- detection-rubber :-)

(Check these technology lists to be sure)

but all in all it depends on your play style, whether you´ll want VIIC42 or not. Otherwise wait to get that VIIE ...
