I lost my boat today as well with no recourse.
And it is B.S.
I'm going back over to (UBI) GRO where at least the community has the backbone to standup and tell the developers there wrong.
I'm finished with this nonsense.

Just recuperating what the issue is that's discussed here.
Player starts playing the open beta of Silent Hunter Online.
Player gets a free type II-A sub to play tutorial.
Player gets at finishing that tutorial a free type II-B sub.
None of the above items are payed by player.
Player invests TIME to do missions and accumulate prestige points and gold. Some gold is given by starting to play this game and some for completing certain missions and achievements.
Player invests TIME to upgrade sub and crew with prestige points.
Player looses sub out at sea for whatever reason.
Player doesn't understand that gold is used to remove TIME from the equation to recover from his loss. Why?
Because he learned at early age: Loosing TIME feels like loosing money.
So i understand why the original poster doesn't like that the only way to keep his sub from the sea bottom for ever is to pay gold.
But his request to be able to recover it over time with prestige points is exactly what the developers have made possible.
Buy the AUXILARY TYPE II-A sub in the shop for ZERO gold and re-invest the time to generate prestige points to rebuild en upgrade your lost submarine to former glory and maybe even better.
I hope that everyone in this situation also takes lesson from the experience and figures out how to be more competent as a submarine captain.
Good luck and Happy Hunting.
I am an experienced Silent Hunter player, from v1. I love the game and hope this exciting new online venture picks up.
I also think it is total BS that the only option so that you don't loose a sub + crew + upgrades is MONEY.
In my own personal opinion and not meaning to offend anyone I think previous comments on game time purchase with REAL MONEY or bite it, and being a real life sub commander is also BS.
Loosing an entire sub so hardly earned on a single mission .... and I am in the process of building a Type IIC. Do I love this game so much as to practically START OVER from bellow scratch every time I get sunk ... or pay to salvage it with REAL MONEY? Give me a break !
How do you say RESPAWN in german?

if u loose a sub, u can use the aux to farm PP to buy another sub of the best tech u unlocked so far. i get that.
but u cannot farm crew XP. if u loose a sub with leveled up crew ..u start from scratch (level 1 - cause apparently lvl 0 is not obtainable) or u get experienced crew with real money.
the bottom line is: in this game - if u don;t use real money you can loose all your progress = PAY2WIN.
in other games (WoT) - if u use real money you get to the top faster = FREE2PLAY
There are no real submarines or Captains here.
It is a online F2P computer game designed to give the end user a challenge and fun.
Which in turn will hopefully motivate them to want to spend a little money and increase the fun.
Taking away everything the player has earned in one step is not a sound business decision.
This is BETA and major consideration should be given to this issue by the developers.
I'm here to assess the probabilities of another successful launch of a UBIsoft product and franchise.
If you want get serious about submarines, join the U.S. Navy. They are hiring !!
The objective is to bring in the largest amount of general game players as possible,
not to cater to handful of sub fanatics on realism.
In short it, is a game and that is what it was designed to be, nothing more. And hopefully a profitable one.

I agree with this.
I usually spend about 10-50$ on online games that give me good value for money. I like to invest in things that lets me as a casual gamer avoid the tedious parts of games. I don't spend money on pay-to-win stuff or on consumables.
I think this is a game good enough to spend some money on, but as long as that investment might be permanently lost by random chance (say a plane attack), I'm not going to be spending anything on the game.
Some suggestions for things I could possibly buy:
officers that cannot die (escape raft)
submarine that can always be salvaged (at a non-ridiculous cost)
permanent limitless supply of a type of torpedo
permanent limitless supply of diesel
As long as that kind of permanent helpers are not available I will not be investing in the game, sorry
This is both my loss and your loss![]()
simple solution, include insurance with sale of premium boats, and offer insurance as an option for in game PP credits for all players
Let us not forget the outrageous cost of 8uilding a 8oat to 8egin with! I think the crew system should 8e scrapped, you should only have to pay for equipment and officers, and even the current price of officers is a 8it high, especially considering it's harder than normal to sink a ship right now 8ecause there is no damage model. If you make a8out 80 PP per ship, 8ut it took 2 standard torps to sink it, you only made 40 of that, and then eventually you will have to pay for more torps/gas/repairs, leaving less for advancement.
